For availing any of the George Mason University financial aids and scholarships, you have to fill your FAFSA and submit the necessary official transcripts. Both the graduate and the undergraduate students are eligible for availing these financial aids. The GMU federal code for FAFSA is 003749.

Scholarships

The university offers institutional scholarships to various categories of students based on their talents, skills and unique qualities. 

The international students are eligible for the You Are Welcome Here scholarship program. 

The continuing students can receive the following scholarships on fulfilling the criteria.

  • Mason Foundation Scholarships are offered from the donations of the alumni members and allies. 

  • The departmental scholarships are provided by the different departments of study of the university itself.

  • GMU also stresses on nurturing the athletes of their university and grants them athletic scholarships.

  • The George Mason University Alumni Association offers around 5 scholarships to the students annually.

  • Graduate Fellowships are received by the graduate students only to facilitate their course work or research work.

Grants

The grants are mainly provided by the university in order to lend a helping hand to those who are in need of finances for funding their academics.

The Federal Pell grant is given by the U.S Department of Education and the amount limit varies every year. FSEOG is to meet the exceptional financial requirements of the candidates. The financial need is identified based on the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) of the candidates.

State grants such as the Virginia Commonwealth Award and the Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program are also provided.

Loans

The Loans can be borrowed both in your or your parents’ name. The interest on the GMU is not very high keeping in mind the affordability aspect of the candidates.

The Federal Direct Student Loans comes in two forms. One being the subsidised and the other being the unsubsidised loans. The Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans are also provided. Another type of government loan is the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan which can be applied for by only the graduate students.

Private and third-party loans are also readily available. You have the option of applying for emergency loans only during extraordinary circumstances for meeting the educational expenses.
