Baseball is an American tradition. There are college scholarships available for athletes who dream of going to a college on a baseball scholarship. But it’s a cut-throat competition which exists out there. Like all the athletes, sports lovers wish to get a baseball scholarship. One has to work really hard to get noticed by any college coaches or recruiters.
If you are one of those who are really serious about getting a baseball scholarship then you must start preparing very early in your high school days may be from sophomore year. You will be getting a chance to work very closely with coaches. You will also be asked to prepare statistics and play reels to submit it to college coaches and recruiters.
Secondly, one must remember that there are only limited scholarships for baseball players and since it is a part of American culture and possess great value many strive for such opportunities. Hence, you should try your best to be one of the achievers of baseball scholarships.
Baseball is an equivalency sport. So unlike football and basketball scholarships are given to multiple players in each division. Each division has its own number of scholarships. The different baseball divisions are NCAA D1, NCAA D2, NCAA D3, NAIA, and junior college baseball.
Getting a baseball scholarship is a long term process, but with hard work and diligence, students are able to secure a scholarship for college.
Well, in order to avail of a baseball scholarship one has to look into many dimensions. Under NCAA rules, a Division 1 baseball team’s 11.7 scholarships can be divided between a maximum of 27 players on a 35-player roster, with all players on athletic scholarship having to receive a minimum of a 25 percent scholarship. This will give you a chance for eight walk-ons. The condition for this scholarship is that these players will not be given athletic scholarships but they can earn those scholarships in the future. One also has to prove oneself academically sound and in order to do that one has to finish 10 of their 16 core courses before their senior year in high school.
So, here is the list of courses that you need to finish before your senior year in high school.
Four years of English
Three years of math (Algebra 1 or higher)
Two years of natural/physical science
One additional year of English, math or natural/physical science
Two years of social science
Four additional years of English, math, natural/physical science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion or philosophy
Besides this, you also need to fulfill some other criteria. Those are:
Athletes must have at least a 2.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Your requirement for the ACT or SAT scores simply depends on the sliding scale.
To be eligible to play at Division 1 or Division 2 level, athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. It is advisable to start preparation after your sophomore year of high school.
