Riflery is a rare sport that provides you college scholarship opportunities under athletic scholarships. If you are enthusiastic about marksmanship and enjoy the sport, you have several opportunities to earn rifling scholarships.
As a marksman, you can prove your talents by participating in competitions to show off your skill, or you can demonstrate your interest by joining a local or national rifle group— as some scholarships offered to require recipients to be members.
Rifle (Marksmanship) as a sport is a rare discipline where the best scholarship opportunities may be found outside your college. People who aspire to become marksmen are skilled in precision shooting. As this sport is gaining popularity, state-wide and local groups are looking to promote the sport more.
Many organizations award on the basis of your capability outside of your marksmanship abilities. Scholarships from rifle groups reward you for other criteria, such as academic achievement and also community service if you don't necessarily want to compete in the sport on the college level but you are good at the sport. Your financial need is also considered by some college groups.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) offers multiple rifle-related scholarships. It is available to high school attendees to the annual NRA Youth Education Summit (YES). The summit makes students become knowledgeable and active citizens by making them learn constitutional processes, and also the attendees compete for $30,000 in scholarships. It requires the applicants to participate in debates and other activities during the seven days long YES conference to be considered for the scholarship.
Being a member of an ROTC or JROTC rifle team, you can apply for a Civilian Marksmanship Scholarship Program award. It requires you to be undergrads or high school seniors and must be a competitive rifle marksman with exceptional academic and leadership credentials. You also need to be an active member of a JROTC, high school, college, or ROTC rifle team.
Students who are in collegiate level rifle teams and who expect to continue their education beyond a four-year degree can apply for an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is given to the athletes who have maintained
a GPA of at least 3.2
who expect to become part-time or full-time graduate students upon completion of their baccalaureate degrees
Both women and men can apply for this one-time award.
