It is obvious that most of us know about volleyball. It is a team sport that has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.
In this sport, two teams of six players will be playing and are separated by a net.
Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under certain organized rules.
The basic skills necessary are passing or bumping the ball, setting, hitting, spiking, and serving.
For those that play volleyball and want to go to college, there are a number of college scholarships under Athletic scholarships available. Let us now discuss volleyball scholarships.
Volleyball scholarships is a financial aid paid by a college or university to a young and confident athlete as an incentive to encourage him/her to join the athletic program. Like any other athlete scholarship, this is also awarded to athletic students based on their talent and game skills.
Volleyball players who want to play the sport on the club or intercollegiate level still may be eligible for scholarships that are set up by local groups and organizations. In this case, athletes are evaluated less on talent and more on other factors such as academic achievement, community services, and more.
There are two main governing bodies for collegiate sports which are as follows.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
Here are a few points you might want to know about volleyball scholarships.
Although some schools have both male and female volleyball teams, scholarships for female athletes are much more common due to the sheer number of women’s volleyball teams.
Traditional volleyball scholarships from institutions with the top programs are very competitive and require minimum GPAs in their eligibility standards.
Players at all skill levels may find themselves eligible for awards not offered directly by the college they plan to attend.
