College sailing has a very long tradition and the sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing forms that are authorized through different sailing federations, organizations, and yacht clubs.
Racing disciplines include matches within a fleet of sailing craft, between a pair thereof or among teams. Many of America’s most prestigious universities have varsity or club sailing teams.
